Setting Your Career Aspirations

Set your current job and career goals on Navigatr to power your personalised Job Feed and pathway recommendations on supported pathways.

Written by Support Desk

Your Career Aspirations tell Navigatr where you are in your working life and where you want to go next. We use this to personalise your Job Feed on supported pathways and to surface pathway recommendations that fit your goals.

Everything in this section is optional, and you can update it at any time.

Where to find these settings

  1. From any page on Navigatr, click on your avatar to open your profile page

  2. Click Settings

  3. In the left sidebar, under Profile, select My Career

You will see two groups of fields: Current Position and Where I’d like to be.

My Career settings page on Navigatr showing the Current Position and Where I'd like to be field groups

Your current position

These fields describe what you do today. Filling these in helps us tailor pathway recommendations and the Job Feed to where you are right now.

Current Position fields: Employment Status, Current Employer, Current Title, Current Level, and Years of Experience
  • Employment Status: choose from Employed, Self-Employed, Unemployed, Student, In Training, or None of the above.

  • Current Employer: the organisation you work for, if any.

  • Current Title: your current job title.

  • Current Level: choose from Entry, Middle, Senior, Director, or Vice President or General Manager.

  • Years of Experience: how long you have been working in your field, in whole years.

Where you’d like to be

These fields describe your career goals. They are private to you and used to personalise what you see on Navigatr.

Where I'd like to be fields including Desired Situation, End Goal, City/Town, Desired Job Title, Desired Salary, Hours of Work, and Work Location
  • Desired Situation: the kind of situation you are working towards, for example "I’d like to be employed" or "I’d like to be trained".

  • End Goal: the specific outcome you want next, for example a full-time job, an apprenticeship, an internship, a qualification, a course, or a volunteering role.

  • Work for a company like: a company whose work or culture appeals to you. We use this as a hint, not a hard filter.

Note: Not every pathway has the Job Feed. If you do not see jobs at the bottom of a pathway, the provider has not enabled it for that pathway.

  • City/Town: the location you would like to work in.

  • Desired Job Title: the role you would like to move into.

  • Desired Salary (£): the annual salary you are aiming for.

  • Hours of Work: Full Time, Part Time, or Either.

  • Work Location: In Person, Remote, Hybrid, or Any Work Location.

How these settings drive recommendations

Your career goals shape two parts of your Navigatr experience:

  • Job Feed: When a provider enables the Job Feed on a pathway, we use your preferences to tailor the feed to you. By default, we'll prioritise showing you vacancies close to your city that are relevant to your goals.

  • Recommendations. When we surface opportunities for you to discover, your End Goal is used to bring content that matches your aim, for example pathways leading to a qualification or a full-time job, to the top of the list.
