Completing a Pathway Survey

What pathway surveys are, when you'll be asked to take part, and how to complete one. Your answers stay anonymised and feed back to the issuer.

A pathway survey is a short questionnaire from the organisation running your pathway. It helps them understand what is working for learners like you, what is making a difference, and where they can improve. Your answers stay anonymised, and you are never identified individually to the pathway's owners. See Taking Part in a Pathway if you have not started a pathway yet.


The three kinds of pathway survey

Pathways with surveys enabled send up to three short questionnaires at different points in your journey:

  • Baseline: sent at the very start, before you have earned any badges. It captures a starting picture of where you are now.

  • Completion: sent once you have earned a badge from every step of the pathway. It reflects on what has changed since the baseline.

  • Follow-up: sent a while after you finish the pathway. It tracks longer-term outcomes, like jobs gained, qualifications earned, or how you are putting the skills to use.

Not every pathway uses all three. The pathway's creator decides whether to enable surveys at all, and which of the three to send.


Where you will see a survey invitation

When a survey is ready for you, we let you know in three places. You only need to act on one of them:

  • An email invitation to the address on your account. The email names the pathway and links straight through to the survey.

  • A survey step on the pathway page itself, shown alongside the badge steps. It appears in the steps row so you can see at a glance whether a survey is outstanding.

  • A notification on the For You tab of your profile, where the rest of your activity updates live.

Completing a survey

All three surveys work the same way, so once you have done one you know what to expect for the next. To complete a survey:

  1. Open the survey from the email invitation, the prompt on the pathway page, or the For You tab. Any of them takes you to the same place.

  2. Read the short introduction at the top, which tells you who is running the survey and roughly how long it will take.

  3. Work through the questions. You will see a mix of formats.

    • Single or multiple choice: pick one option, or tick the ones that apply.

    • Agree or disagree: a scale from Strongly Agree through to Strongly Disagree for short statements about your confidence, motivation, and skills.

    • Free text: a box for you to type a short response in your own words.

    • Equality monitoring: optional questions about age, sex, disability, and similar. Every one includes a Prefer not to say option, and you can skip the section entirely. See Customising Your Equality Monitoring Information for more on how this data is handled.

  4. Click Submit when you have answered everything you want to answer.


After you submit

Once you submit a survey, your answers are saved and locked. You cannot edit a submitted survey, so take a moment to check your responses before you click Submit.

The issuer running the pathway only ever sees anonymised, aggregated results. They cannot view your individual answers, and your name is never attached to anything they report on. For the full privacy model on the demographic questions, see Customising Your Equality Monitoring Information.


Reminders

If you do not submit a survey straight away, we send up to three automatic reminders, typically a few days apart. The issuer can also send you a few manual nudges on top of that. All reminders stop as soon as you submit.

You can also turn off survey reminder emails in your notification settings if you would rather not receive them, without affecting the rest of your Navigatr emails.
