Hiding Your Profile from Search Engines

Tell search engines like Google and Bing not to list your Navigatr profile or badges. Find the toggle in Settings and learn what to expect.

Written by Support Desk

Every Navigatr profile and badge page can be found through search engines like Google and Bing by default. That works well for most people, because it helps employers, colleagues, and contacts find your achievements when they search your name.

If you would rather your profile did not appear in search results, you can switch this off from your account settings. This article shows you where the option lives, what it does, and what to expect after you turn it on.

Why your profile is indexed by default

When an employer or contact searches your name, your profile and badges are some of the strongest pieces of evidence you can point to. They show what you have learned, who recognised it, and when.

Hiding your profile from search engines

You can change this setting at any time. There is one toggle that covers your profile and all of your badge pages together.

  1. Sign in to Navigatr and open Settings from your account menu.

  2. Choose Data & Privacy from the settings menu.

  3. Under Privacy Settings, turn on Hide my profile from search engines.

That is everything you need to do. The change is saved as soon as you flip the toggle, and you can turn it back off the same way if you change your mind.

What changes when you turn this on

With the toggle on, we tell search engines like Google and Bing not to list your profile or any of your badge pages in their search results. Both your profile and your badges are covered by this single setting, so there is nothing else to switch off separately.

One thing to know up front: search engines re-crawl pages on their own schedule. Your profile and badge pages may still appear in search results for a while after you turn the toggle on, sometimes for days or weeks. There is no way to speed this up from inside Navigatr.

What this setting does not do

This toggle is about search engines, not about who can see your profile.

Important note: Hiding your profile from search engines does not make it private. Anyone who has the direct link to your profile, or to one of your badge pages, can still open it. The toggle only stops search engines from listing the pages.

If a specific badge is the reason you want a lower profile, you can remove that badge from your account rather than hiding everything. Learn how to do this in Claiming or Viewing Your Badge.

Tip: If you need stronger privacy than this toggle gives you, or if your profile is still showing up in search results weeks after you turned the setting on, contact [email protected] and we will help you work through the options.
