Navigatr's core features
The core features Navigatr is built around:
Badge: a digital credential issued by an organisation to recognise a skill, achievement, or experience. Every Navigatr badge is a verifiable Open Badge. See Understanding Badges.
Activity: a session run by a provider, such as a workshop, course, or event, that awards a badge when you attend. See Understanding Activities.
Pathway: a guided journey made up of badges, completed step by step, sometimes ending in a completion badge. See Understanding Pathways.
Provider: an organisation that creates and issues badges and runs activities and pathways. See Understanding Organisations.
Community: an umbrella organisation that groups several providers together, such as a local authority or a network. See Understanding Organisations.
Inside a badge or pathway
The smaller pieces that make up badges and pathways:
Standard: a framework that a badge aligns to, showing how it fits into a recognised set of skills or levels. See Navigatr Badge Framework for an example.
Skill: a competency a badge recognises. Badges list the skills they represent so others can see what they stand for. See Understanding Badges.
Endorsement: a public statement of support for a badge from a third party, adding weight to what it represents. See Endorsing a Digital Badge.
Earn link: a link on a badge that takes you to an external site, such as a quiz or form, where you do what is needed to earn it. See Earning a Badge.
Step: one stage of a pathway, containing one or more badges to earn before you move on. See Understanding Pathways.
Completion badge: a badge awarded automatically for finishing every step of a pathway, when the pathway has one. See Understanding Pathways.
Your account and badges
Terms about your profile, your membership, and the badges you earn:
Interests: topics you choose in your profile so Navigatr can suggest badges, activities, and pathways that match what you care about. See Setting Your Interests and Learning Styles.
Learning style: a way you prefer to learn, such as online courses, remote, workshops, or classroom. Setting yours helps Navigatr recommend content that suits you. See Setting Your Interests and Learning Styles.
Member: someone who has joined an organisation, allowing it to recognise them and issue them badges. See Understanding Organisations.
QR code: your personal code on Navigatr that an organiser can scan to check you in to an activity and issue your badge. See Understanding Your Personal QR Code.
Open Badge: an open, portable standard for digital credentials. Because Navigatr badges are Open Badges, you can verify them and take them to other platforms. See Open Badges Explained.
Verification: a check confirming that a badge is genuine. A verified organisation shows a check mark, and anyone can verify a badge without an account. See Verifying Your Navigatr Badge.
