Communities and providers on Navigatr are run by administrators. Most people are invited by a colleague, and the invitation arrives by email. You can also be handed the role directly by an admin who is stepping down, which is covered in If an admin handed their role over to you below.
This article covers where invitations are sent, what happens when you receive one, and what to do if the invitation went to a different email address from the one you usually use.
Accepting an admin invitation
When a community or provider admin invites you to join their organisation, Navigatr sends an invitation email to the address they entered. They can send invitations to any email address. It does not have to match the address you usually sign in with.
The email comes from the Navigatr support address and tells you who invited you, the name of the community or provider, and which role you have been assigned.
What happens next depends on whether you already have a Navigatr account.
If you already have a Navigatr account
If the invitation was sent to an email address that is already linked to your Navigatr account, your new role is applied straight away. The email you receive confirms that you are now an administrator for the organisation, and your account picks up the new privileges on your next sign-in.
If you do not have a Navigatr account yet
If the invitation was sent to an email address that is not yet on Navigatr, the email includes a link to register. Open the link and follow the steps to create your account using the same email address.
If an admin handed their role over to you
There is a second way to become an administrator that does not involve an invitation. An existing admin can hand their role straight over to you from Manage then Admins, using the Switch admin option on their own row. Navigatr calls this switching the administrator.
If this happens, you get the same confirmation email as an invited admin, telling you that you are now an administrator for that organisation, plus a notification in Navigatr. There is nothing to accept and no invitation link, because the role is already on your account. If you have turned off Navigatr system emails you will still get the notification, but not the email.
You need a Navigatr account first. An admin cannot switch the role to an email address that has never signed up. If you do not have an account yet, create one, which is free, then ask them to try again.
You cannot be switched in if you already administer somewhere else on Navigatr in a different capacity. If that applies to you, contact Navigatr support before the handover.
To start using the role, follow Accessing your dashboard below.
Accessing your dashboard
To access your new dashboard, click Admin in the navigation bar. If you were already signed in when the invitation arrived, sign out and back in first to pick up the new role. If you administer more than one organisation, click the organisation name in the navigation bar to switch between them.
If this is your first time as an admin, see Getting Started with Your Provider Account.
If the invitation went to a different email address
You can attach more than one email address to a single Navigatr account, so an invitation sent to a work email or a personal email will land on the same profile as long as the address is linked. If the invitation went to an address that is not on your account yet, add and verify it first.
See Adding Multiple Emails to Your Account for the steps to link and verify a new email.
